Who I am
I am Carsten Wendt and I run my registered business out of Brussels Belgium with the VAT-number BE0541288110. My website address is: https://www.carstenwendt.com.
What personal data I collect and why
Comments
When you leave a comment on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Updates-subscription
When you subscribe to my updates, I ask for no other information than your email address which I will not share with others. Your email address is however stored on the servers of AWeber, a service that allows me to send an update email to all subscribers at once. Here is the privacy policy of AWeber which includes the following:
“We only keep your information so that our Client, whose email list you subscribed to, can email you.
We do not contact you. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else.”
AWeber also allows me to see whether subscribers open the email and click the embedded links (to my blog posts).
You can unsubscribe at any time: an unsubscribe option is at the bottom of every email that I send you.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on the site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
I currently do not use Google Analytics or a similar service.
Server log files
Like many other websites, we make use of server log files. The information inside the log files includes Internet protocol (IP) addresses, the type of browser, Internet Service Provider (“ISP”), a date/time stamp, referring/exit pages and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track a Subscriber’s movement around the website and gather demographic information. IP addresses and other such information are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Social Media Plugin “Shariff Wrapper”
On our website we offer you the possibility to use so called “Social Media Buttons”. To protect your data, we use a solution called “Shariff”. Hereby the share buttons are implemented as static images, which contain a link to the corresponding social network site. If you click on such a button, you will be redirected to the respective social network site in the same way, as normal links would do as well. Only in that moment of time the provider of the social network site will get information about you, for example your IP address. If you do not click on such a share button, no data will be transmitted. Information about the collection and usage of your date on the social network sites can be found in the corresponding terms of use of the respective provider. More information about the plugin and the Shariff solution can be found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/shariff/
On our website we offer share buttons for the following services / companies: Facebook, GooglePlus, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Twitter.
